Productivity Tool: Get a Free 2gb Flash Drive (sort of)

1 March, 2010 (07:00) | Productivity | By: Aaron

This week you can get something great for free.  It’s essentially a 2gb flash drive that you never have to carry.  It won’t break, and you can access it from any computer in the world with internet access.  It’s called Dropbox.

Dropbox is essentially a file storage website.  It is a secure place where you can store files for quick access, at any time.  Like Evernote, you can download this program to any computer you own.  You can then store files into a folder labeled ‘Dropbox’ that is then synced with the Dropbox website.  I can then access the files from any computer that is logged into my Dropbox account, or from the Dropbox website.  This includes the iPhone as well.  It is also useful for file-sharing with friends and co-workers. This gives you a way around the maximum size that an email will allow you to attach so you can send bigger files to people.  They also offer size upgrades for people who want to use it to store larger files or to back up their hard drive.

I personally use it for my school files, and as a backup for my projects.  I download all my those files to my Dropbox folder, and sync them.  I then have my notes on my computer, on my iPhone, or any computer I need to access them from.  It’s quick, easy, and safe.  And at the end of the semester I know where all the files are so I can quickly delete them.

This program, along with Evernote will be very useful when the iPad comes out, providing a quick and easy way to store files for access on the iPad, and export to another computer.  Hope you find this useful.  It’s free, why not take advantage of it.  God bless.

P.S. If you follow this link, or the one above to get Dropbox then you will recieve a 250 megabyte bonus when you sign up.  Click here to get Dropbox now.
